As the UK’s electricity infrastructure continues to expand, the demand for reliable and efficient access solutions is greater than ever. Grassform played a crucial role in supporting a major underground cable pulling project, delivering a massive 97,500m² of temporary ground protection over a 7-month period – a whopping total of 13,000 panels!
This large-scale installation provided 5 metre wide access roads and temporary compounds across various locations spanning a 40 mile stretch. With diverse ground conditions and strict project timelines, our team ensured seamless access for heavy plant and machinery, enabling efficient cable installation and maintenance.
The Challenges
• Scale & Complexity – The project covered an extensive area, requiring precise coordination and staged installations.
• Variable Ground Conditions – The route passed through fields, soft terrain, and uneven ground, requiring a durable trackway solution.
• Heavy-Duty Requirements – The access roads needed to support HGVs, cable drum transporters and specialist lifting equipment.
• Extended Hire Duration – The trackway had to remain in place for 7 months, enduring weather changes and heavy use.
Results
To meet the projects demands, Grassform supplied and installed TuffTrak heavy-duty panels, ensuring safe, stable, and durable access throughout the project.
Our experienced logistics team made sure 13,000 panels were delivered to site effortlessly using our own vehicles as well as using our extensive network of outside hauliers. The next step was for our qualified and skilled crews on site installing and uplifting the panels across 7 months. None of this could have been done without our specialist operatives working across both northern and southern depots to clean, conform and process the panels to go out on to site to begin the project. All cogs in the wheel that could not work without each other. Dream work makes the team work!
