Grassform, an NPK company, installed 700 metres of TuffTrak heavy duty drilling mats to provide safe, reliable access for a 12-tonne drilling rig across farm tracks and agricultural land, enabling borehole drilling operations to proceed safely while protecting the underlying ground.
Background
A ground investigation contractor required temporary access to a borehole drilling location in the North East Region, UK. The project involved transporting a 12-tonne drilling rig along an existing farm track and across agricultural land to reach the work area during a three-week drilling programme.
Challenge
The site presented uneven ground conditions that required a stable temporary access route capable of supporting the drilling rig and associated equipment while minimising disturbance to the surrounding farmland.
Careful planning was also required to ensure the panels layout provided efficient access while maintaining site safety throughout the project.
Solution
Grassform carried out a site survey to assess the terrain, access requirements, and ground conditions before designing a temporary access solution using TuffTrak heavy-duty panels.
Approximately 700 metres of TuffTrak panels were installed over a two-day period, creating a stable access road and working platform from the farm track to the drilling location. The TuffTrak panels remained in place throughout the three-week hire period, providing reliable access for drilling operations.
Results
The TuffTrak installation delivered safe and dependable access for the drilling rig and support equipment throughout the project while protecting the underlying ground. Advance planning enabled an efficient installation, reduced disruption to the site, and provided the contractor with a reliable access solution that supported safe, productive operations from start to finish.
